Hi Alasdair,

Fully agreed. Social media is not an objective but a ressource to help business create solution.

By the way, I usually take the position that social media does not exist and that there are only communities.

I find it more efficient and actionnable to look at client's objectives with a "target community" approach than with a "social media"/ infrastructure approach.

Couldn't agree more. Saying that you need social media before you identify your business & marketing goals is like buying the furniture for a house that's yet to be designed.

HI Kathy. Pleased you have stopped by.

I like the way you have articulated that. Absolutely, it is not "all or nothing" but an evolution. And as we know things evolve towards needs and use. Actually my sister Clare wrote a blog that touches on this "<a href="http://claremunn.com/2010/01/is-2010-the-death-of-web-2-0/" rel="nofollow">Is 2010 The Death of Web 2.0?</a>"

Thank you, Alasdair!

We need more thought leadership advocating just what you said. Social business is a model and strategy for business. Social media is the tool. And the latter will likely fail if a company isn't embracing a social strategy to some level.

I agree with you...The integrated social strategy embraces a holistic view of corporate opportunity and need. Of course, an integrated strategy can require much retooling of corporate culture and processes so many companies will stair-step their way to the social end goal. And that's a-ok.
